Northwood's Second Annual International Edible Book Festival

We would like to extend a huge “Thank You” to everyone who contributed an entry, and to everyone who stopped by!  With your help, this year’s Edible Book Festival was a huge success!

This year’s event drew over 20 participants with entries made out of materials from chocolate to oatmeal to oranges.  Entries competed in three categories at the 2008 IEBF- Punniest (best use of puns), Most Creative, and Best Workmanship.  We also ended up with a surprise category – Most Votes Overall!  One entry just had so many overall votes, though not enough to win in a single category; just had to honor that participant with a special award.
This year’s Edible Book Festival took place on Saturday, March 29, at Northwood Town Hall.  Despite the snowstorm the day before, and the huge gusts of wind, so many people came to check out the entries and enjoy eating the “books.”  Many town residents came to check out the festivities, and we even had a visit from Selectman Ken Curley!

Keith Shields from New Hampshire Public Radio also stopped by the 2008 Edible Book Festival!  Mr. Shields interviewed Danielle about how the library came to hold Edible Book Festivals, and spoke with several participants and edible book viewers!  His piece will be featured on New Hampshire Public Radio, as well as both the NHPR website and our website.  We were all excited to see Mr. Shields, and very pleased that he was able to attend this year’s festival.

This year’s winners were:
Most Votes Overall – Catherine F. with the Spiderlick Chronicles
Punniest – Emily M. with 1,000 Splenda Suns
Most Creative – Allison I. with Harry Pot-Her and the Sorcerer’s Spaghetti
Best Workmanship – Jenni W. with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Photos of the winners and all of our 2008 entries, this year’s trophies, and photos from throughout the event are in the library’s Flickr account here

We have already begun working on next year’s festival, which we hope will be bigger and include so many more entries!  We are working on some fun new ideas to try out, and hope that next year we will have as much fun as we did this year.  We hope to see you then!
