Basic Art for Kids Returns!

Local artist David Burton will once again offer a free "Basic Art For Kids" class at
the Chesley Memorial Library.  The class will meet at the library on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until noon July 12 through August 23.  The class is open to children ages 10-15.  Please call the library at 942-5472 to register as space is limited.  Participants need to bring a #2 or a #4 pencil, drawing paper or pad, and an eraser.

About David:
For nearly 20 years, David Burton has been providing high quality and creative images for a wide diversity of clients.  His paintings and illustrations have appeared as covers and interiors for hardcover and paperback books, magazines, comic books character design for movies, and advertising art.  His work has won awards across the country and can be found in collections around the world.   David is also an active library supporter- he is currently working on a fabulous mural for our new Youth Area redesign.

Youth Room Redesign!

It’s finally happening- our new shelves are arriving!  Some have already arrived and are being stored in the hallway.  The arrival of our shelves is just step one though- once all the shelves have arrived we will begin painting them!

Danielle has worked together with David Burton (one of the artists who will be creating a mural for our shelves) to choose some wonderful colors that will help brighten up the room and add some much needed color!
As we work on paining the outsides of the shelves, the murals will also be painted!  Artists David Burton and Shawn Myers are generously donating their time to design and paint fabulous murals for us.

After the paint has dried, cured and been sealed, it will be time to move all the books!

This is going to be an intense task, and unfortunately, we will have to close the Youth Area of the library, beginning June 10,  during this process.  However, we will have a selection of books, from all sections (Picture, Juvenile Fiction, Young Adult, Non-Fiction, etc.) available for patrons to check out.  If you need a particular book, please ask a librarian.  We will do our best to locate it for you.  Due to the complete redesign and reorganization of all the books in the Youth Area, it may take some time to locate your book and we may not be able to get it for you right away.  We appreciate your understanding during this time.
We anticipate the Youth Area being closed for approximately one week during this process.  We hope we can finish this task in less then a week though!

Once this daunting task is completed, the Youth Area of the Chesley Memorial Library will be transformed!  Each section of the area will have its own specific space- the center of the room will be reserved for picture books, juvenile fiction will be on one side of the room and non-fiction will be on the other.  Young adult books will be completely separated from the juvenile fiction books, and will be housed in their own space.

Our hopes for this new design is to open the Youth Area up, letting in more sunlight, while at the same time using the space to our best advantage.  The new shelves will increase our shelf space- allowing for more books without having to pack them as tightly.

As soon as we are totally finished paining and moving books, the library will be holding an Open House to display all our hard work!  We are looking at several possibilities, but we will not announce the date until we are sure we will meet our deadlines.  We hope to hold the open house before our Summer Reading Program begins in July.

This is very exciting for us here at the library, and we are anxious for everything to be finished.  We certainly cannot wait to see the new Youth Area completed, and we know you cannot either!
