Music & Magic
A Day of Fun at the Library

On Tuesday, December 29, the Chesley Memorial Library hosted Wayne from Maine and Peter Boie, Magician for the Non-Believer at the Northwood Masonic Hall.  Despite a minor setback with the heat the show was wildly successful!  We would like to thank everyone who attended for being so patient even though the room was very chilly.
Wayne from Maine opened the show at 2:00pm, and even sang some acoustic songs for some early arrivals.  Joining Wayne on percussion was Jimmy James the Koonga Boonga Man.  Wayne and Jimmy held a great show for us.  There was tons of audience participation, including a guest appearance by young Cameron where he and Wayne sung a duet of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.”
Wayne and Jimmy encouraged lots of dancing and urged everyone to join in the singing.  Several times Jimmy James, the Koonga Boonga Man, handed out musical shakers to children for musical participation and a number of children assisted Wayne and Jimmy with singing “Clark the Toothless Shark.”  Wayne also gave away a “fantastic new item” (that apparently is all the rage in Maine) to audience members- cassette tapes of his music.
After Wayne from Maine’s delightful music and a brief intermission, where audience members warmed themselves by standing in front of heating vents and playing games we were able to welcome Magician Peter Boie.
Peter Boie, Magician for the Non-Believer, wowed the audience with his daring feats of magic and made us laugh at his jokes and silly antics.  He tried to trick us by making toilet paper “disappear” (he threw it over his head) and fooled us with a hollow egg that turned out to be real!  Thankfully, he did not drink the raw egg as he had threatened!
During a silly trick audience member Mary, foiled Peter’s tries to make a foam ball disappear.  Instead of disappearing they multiplied in Mary’s hands!  Alec, another audience member, helped Peter turn four cut pieces of rope into one long single piece.  And everyone was amazed at Peter’s finale as he escaped from a straight jacket that two audience members belted him into.
Everyone had a wonderful time at both shows, and can’t wait till the next shows offered by the library!  (We are still deciding on dates, times, and performers, but keep a look out!)
Photos from this event will be added to the library’s flickr account.  A link will be available on the Children’s Page of the website after they have all been added.
